Simparo Inc. Secures Fourth U.S. Patent, Strengthening Its Portfolio in Thumb CMC Reconstruction and Anatomic Coaptation
New patent covers a versatile suture-locking technology designed to simplify orthopedic repairs and improve surgical efficiency, reproducibility, and stability.
MOBILE, AL — 7.8.2026 — Simparo Inc. (DBA Simparo Surgical), a medical device company developing novel orthopedic technologies for the extremities, today announced the issuance of U.S. Patent No. 12,661,103, its fourth issued U.S. patent. The patent, granted on June 23, 2026, covers a suture-locking mechanism and associated methods that allow surgeons to control and hold tension while repairing the CMC joint of the thumb, as the result of osteoarthritis.
The technology addresses a long-standing challenge in Thumb CMC reconstruction: achieving basal joint reconstruction quickly, securely, and reproducibly. Conventional approaches often require second site tendon harvesting, drilling tunnels in the bone, and tensioning methods relying solely on approximation — steps that can add time and complexity to a procedure. Simparo’s suture-locking mechanism, the Falcon Suture Clutch, uses a one-way cinching design that lets a surgeon complete the repair to the desired tension in a controlled and incremental fashion.
While the invention was first developed to support the thumb after basal joint arthroplasty — a common reconstruction for the degenerative arthritis that affects roughly one in four women and nearly one in twelve men in their fifties — the patent describes a platform technology with a far broader potential applications.
